This is a web-site for Robleys who can trace their origins to the County of Cumberland, England. They will find that most of their ancestors were farmers, although there were other occupations which they pursued either in conjuction with, or independently of their farming activities. Thus the Scarrowmanwick Robleys were farmers, but also victuallers, who up to the 1870s ran The Ship Inn. Research has revealed several clergymen, a malster, farm-labourers, a smith and a number of weavers. Two convicts Christopher Robley(1810) and John Robley (1789), from Cumberland, were transported to Australia. Other Robleys emigrated, on their own initiative, to such places as the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Tobago and Madeira. A few became famous in their new countries.
