BIRTH

Edward Robert Robley (known as Eddie), son of Robert Nevison Robley and Dora Riches, was born on 11 March 1911 in Newcastle. His father was killed in WW1, when he was four.


MARRIAGE

Edward Robert first met Alma Prudham at a social gathering in Durham, and they married at Monkton, near Jarrow on August 2 1937. Soon afterwards they moved to Medham Cotages, Northwood, Isle of Wight

WORK

Edward Robert began his working life as a railway clerk. After his move to the Isle of Wight he worked as a buyer for J.S.White and Sons, shipbuiders at Cowes.

MILITARY CAREER

Edward Robert served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers during the war in France and Holland after D-Day.

POST-WAR CAREER

After the war Edward ROBERT returned to White's before working as an accountant with Damant and Sons, solicitors, of Cowes. He stayed there until his retirement in 1976.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

An important part of the life of Edward & Alma was their membership of St. Mary's Church, Cowes. Edward was a baritone and he sang in the choir for many years. He also took a keen interest in family history.

DEATH

Edward Robert died in 1991 in the Isle of Wight. Alma died in 2002, also in the Isle of Wight.

NOTE

David Edward Robley married Sheila Joan Simpson & they had 3 children:

David & Sheila, with their 2 eldest children, emigrated to Australia, by aircraft departing UK on 6 February 1968 under the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme.

Ursula Robley married Ian Welsh on 12 August, 1972. They have 1 child, Christina Welsh (1982-).
