[Joseph Robley of Scarrowmanwick]

Joseph Robley (1856-1904) was the son of Joseph Robley (1801-1874) and Jane Craggs (1822-1900), of Scarrowmanwick. According to the 1881 census Jane was born in Gilling, York.

[Joseph’s family]

Joseph married Mary Ann Lowis (1857-1928), and he records the births of their seven children.

[William Isaac Robley]

After Joseph’s death the Bible was passed on to his youngest son, William Isaac Robley (1892-1954). William’s marriage to Hannah Graham (1896-1983) and the birth of his elder daughter, Marian is in his own handwriting. Hannah then takes over and writes in the birth of Walter, and the birth and death of Anne. She adds Susan and David. These are the children of Walter Graham Robley and Elizabeth Henderson.

[Marian Robley]

In 1956 Marian Robley married Frederick Gilbert Foster, of Dublin, Ireland. Their sons Aidan and Gerald were born in Sheffield, Yorks, and their daughters Bride and Rona in North Tawton, Devon. Before she died Hannah Graham Robley gave the Bible to Bride Foster and she recorded Hannah’s death, and Gerald’s marriage to Wendy Sylvia. Their two children Katherine and Ian were born in St. John’s Newfoundland.

[Rona and Aidan]

The marriages of Rona and Aidan Foster, and the birth of their children are the last entries in Joseph’s Bible.

[Obituary Notice]

Joseph died very suddenly, but he is not forgotten. He lives on in his descendants, only a few of which are recorded in his Bible.
